The Natural Advantage The deep water ports of Tees and Hartlepool, known collectively as Teesport are positioned on the North East coast, at the centre of the Tees Valley region, creating a natural gateway to the North of England and Scotland. With 6,000 ship arrivals each year, including vessels of up to 200,000 dead weight tonnes, Teesport is the second largest port in the UK, in terms of annual tonnage handled and one of the top 10 European ports. Teesport currently handles 54 million tonnes per annum. Prime Location Strategically situated with direct links to the national motorway network (A19, A66, A1 M) and UK rail system, Teesport is ideally placed to serve the import and export markets. English, Welsh and Sctottish Railways (EWS) operate frequent bulk trains into the port, as well as daily intermodal services, for example to the North West and Scotland. Tees Dock, the main cargo handling facility within PD Teesport, handles some 5 million tonnes of cargo a year and offers easy access to the North Sea for vessels up to Panamax size. In addition to being one of the UK's major steel exportin ports, Tees Dock handles a mix of bulk cargoes, containers and roll on/roll off traffic, swifty and with care. Routes to The World Regular sailings from PD Teesport serve destinations throughout the world, including Africa, China, Europe, the far East, the Indian sub-continent, the Mediterranean and the USA. Ferry Services A major growth area of recent years has been in roll-on / roll -off activities. Daily services run out of Teesport which includes six sailings per week to Zeebrugge and five per week to Rotterdam, with some of the largest freight ferries on the North Sea. |
