- Few areas of the UK are better served by road or rail services than Teesport. Within a few hundred yards of the port gates are dual carriageway roads to:
- The South via A1(M) or A19
- The North via A1(M) or A66/M6
- The West via A66/M6/M5
- Teesport already has direct rail links via the East Coast Main Line and Trans-Pennine routes to all parts of the UK for freight.
Existing daily rail
freight services from Teesport are currently
provided by English Welsh and Scottish Railways Ltd
(EWS) and the Freightliner Group, carrying steel, minerals and containers servicing Scotland and the North West.
- A modal split of 10% transhipment, 70% by road and 20% by rail is typical of the major UK container ports and is sustainable by Teesport with the introduction of a new intermodal rail terminal.
- Network Rail has confirmed availability of train paths to accommodate future volumes for the Northern Gateway Container Terminal project. Discussions continue relating to requirements for rail network upgrades required between Teesport and the East Coast Main Line, as part of “The Northern Way”.
